On March 11, the Ministry of Health and Social Services (MSSS) published its action plan entitled “Runaways in Rehabilitation Centres for Youth with Adjustment Difficulties: Prevention and Better Intervention.”
Boscoville welcomes this plan, which positions us as a collaborator with the MSSS, CISSSs and CIUSSSs, and encourages the engagement of all players, including young people, their parents the Health and Social Services Network, and community organizations and partners in education, justice, public security and academic settings.
“Given the raison d’être of Boscoville, which is to rally different partners to introduce prevention and intervention programs and projects adapted to young Quebecers and their living environments, it is natural for us to support the orientations described in the MSSS action plan. They are in line with the continuity of our initiatives with the CISSSs and CIUSSSs, including the cognitive-behavioural approach, the trauma-based approach, the psychoeducative model and support for positive behaviours implemented with young people aged 0 to 18,” says Mohsen Romdhani, Managing Director of Boscoville..
Different Levels of Collaboration Possible
he MSSS action plan raises several important questions related to runaways, and Boscoville strives to collaborate at different levels, including the following:
1- Advise on best practices for runaway prevention and coaching for young people housed in centres;
2- Support the development of innovative practices;
3- Participate in the deployment of training programs for rehabilitation and frontline professionals;
4- Accompany and support professionals in the implementation of best practices;
5- Support the pilot project for young people at risk of sexual exploitation.
