{"id":17127,"date":"2024-01-16T13:40:57","date_gmt":"2024-01-16T18:40:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/boscoville1stg.wpenginepowered.com\/en\/boscoville-services\/our-programs\/groupe-de-reflexion-sur-les-drogues-grd\/"},"modified":"2026-03-30T18:38:51","modified_gmt":"2026-03-30T22:38:51","slug":"groupe-de-reflexion-sur-les-drogues-grd","status":"publish","type":"deployment-program","link":"https:\/\/www.boscoville.ca\/en\/boscoville-services\/our-programs\/groupe-de-reflexion-sur-les-drogues-grd\/","title":{"rendered":"Groupe de r\u00e9flexion sur les drogues (GRD)"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<div style=\"height:82px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<section class=\"wp-block-vortex-blocks-color-boxes-group color-boxes-group-block alignfull\"><div class=\"color-boxes-group__inner container\"><div class=\"color-box-item aligndefault\"\n>\n   <div class=\"color-box-item__box has-background has-secondary-background-color has-text-color  has-white-color has-icon\">\n    <p class=\"color-box-item__title\">Based On <\/p>\n    <div class=\"color-box-item__content wysiwyg\"><p style=\"text-align: left\">The following are the underlying approaches and theoretical models of the GRD program:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: left\">Harm Reduction<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: left\">Law of Effect<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: left\">Motivational Approach<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: left\">Psychoeducative Approach<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: left\">Cognitive-Behavioral Approach<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n         <div class=\"color-box-item__icon\">\n       <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"92\" height=\"86\" src=\"https:\/\/www.boscoville.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/check.png\" alt=\"bas\u00e9 sur\" title=\"\">     <\/div>\n      <\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div><\/section>\n\n\n\n<section class=\"wp-block-vortex-blocks-columns-title-section columns-title-section-block\"><div class=\"columns-title-section-block__inner\"><div class=\"columns-title-section-block__col columns-title-section-block__col--title\"><h2 class=\"columns-title-section-block__title section-title\">The<strong> Foundations <\/strong>of the<strong> GRD<\/strong> Program<\/h2><\/div><div class=\"columns-title-section-block__col columns-title-section-block__col--content wysiwyg\">\n<p>The GRD program is designed to promote introspection and the adoption of various harm reduction strategies associated with psychoactive substance use.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>GRD workshops were developed to support a group of young people through their journey towards change, while respecting their pace.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The selection of participants is done through <a href=\"https:\/\/oraprdnt.uqtr.uquebec.ca\/portail\/gscw031?owa_no_site=4242&amp;owa_no_fiche=52&amp;owa_bottin=\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">the DEP-ADO questionnaire<\/a> (<em>Germain et al., 2016<\/em>) about the assessment of drug and alcohol use problems in adolescents.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/section>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group alignfull is-style-line-3-bg is-layout-constrained wp-block-group-is-layout-constrained\">\n<section class=\"wp-block-vortex-blocks-columns-title-section columns-title-section-block\"><div class=\"columns-title-section-block__inner\"><div class=\"columns-title-section-block__col columns-title-section-block__col--title\"><h2 class=\"columns-title-section-block__title section-title\"><strong>Objectives <\/strong>of the<strong> GRD<\/strong> Program<\/h2><\/div><div class=\"columns-title-section-block__col columns-title-section-block__col--content wysiwyg\">\n<p><strong>The GRD program aims to improve the quality of life and emotional well-being of adolescents. More specifically, the objectives of the program are to:  <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Make participants reflect about their substance use habits so they can reduce the associated risks and consequences<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Inspire participants to become more responsible and acquire prosocial behaviours<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Foster the motivation to use substance addiction services among adolescents in need of such services<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div><\/div><\/section>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Substance Use Problems Among Adolescents: Issues and Interventions<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Data from the most recent study of the<a href=\"https:\/\/statistique.quebec.ca\/en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"> Institut de la statistique du Qu\u00e9bec<\/a> (<em>Traor\u00e9 et al., 2021<\/em>) indicates that 10% of high school students use alcohol repeatedly and excessively and that 4.5% use cannabis regularly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In light of the associated risks, these substance use habits are a cause for concern. Generally, these risks include the possibility of experiencing adverse effects or an incident related to the substance, context or person.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Risks Associated with Substance Use<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>There are many potential consequences related to drug and alcohol use problems during adolescence at the physical, psychological or financial levels (<em>Bri\u00e8re et al., 2014; Toumbourou and Catalano, 2005<\/em>).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Moreover, drug and alcohol use are also associated with at-risk behaviours, such as risky sexual behaviours, impaired driving or violent physical and sexual behaviours (<em>Lambert et al., 2012; Tapert et al., 2001<\/em>).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For youth with more regular or risky substance use, targeted prevention measures can be effective (<em>Bourdillon et al., 2011; Laventure et al., 2010<\/em>). The GRD program offers an intervention to meet the specific needs of young people for whom a universal intervention would not be sufficient.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:15px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-center has-secondary-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-8b1e399ddaa3cdd254354938715fd97d\">What You Get with the GRD Program<\/h2>\n\n\n<section class=\"text-icon-block aligndefault\"\n>\n   <div class=\"text-icon-block__col text-icon-block__col--icon\">\n          <span class=\"text-icon-block__icon icon-laptop\"><\/span>\n       <\/div>\n   <div class=\"text-icon-block__col text-icon-block__col--content\">\n              <p class=\"text-icon-block__title\">Training<\/p>\n            <div class=\"text-icon-block__content wysiwyg\"><p>Our training, spanning a total of 14 hours, is offered online or in person. It helps social care professionals understand drug and alcohol use in youth and acquire basic concepts in addiction. Moreover, it offers an overview that allows to get familiar with the content of the GRD program and the terms and conditions that are beneficial to its facilitation.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n   <\/div>\n<\/section>\n\n\n<section class=\"text-icon-block aligndefault\"\n>\n   <div class=\"text-icon-block__col text-icon-block__col--icon\">\n          <span class=\"text-icon-block__icon icon-handshake-o\"><\/span>\n       <\/div>\n   <div class=\"text-icon-block__col text-icon-block__col--content\">\n              <p class=\"text-icon-block__title\">Support<\/p>\n            <div class=\"text-icon-block__content wysiwyg\"><p>Boscoville offers one year of support. After the training, a personalized 2-hour planning meeting is offered to ensure that all the components of the implementation have been carefully reviewed.<\/p>\n<p>A follow-up during the program implementation is carried out to ensure it is proceeding properly. (2022<\/em>) Assessment of the Implementation of the GRD Program in School Environments and Development of the Participants Presentation at Boscoville on April 22, 2022.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>The results of the assessment in school environments have shown interesting effects (<em>Laventure, 2022<\/em>):<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Changes in Substance Use:<\/strong> An effect that is usually noted over the medium to long term.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Decreased Risk Taking:<\/strong> The GRD program aims, in the first place, to decrease the associated risk-taking behaviours, which could explain why an immediate decrease in substance use was not observed (<em>Laventure et al., submitted<\/em>).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Positive Adoption:<\/strong> Positive effects on other key variables have been reported, namely more motivation for change and an increase in the adoption of productive strategies.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Steps Taken with Specialized Services:<\/strong> Following their participation in GRD, 40% of participants have decided to continue their efforts with specialized addiction services (<em>Laventure et al., submitted<\/em>).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Learning for Social Care Professionals:<\/strong> Following their participation in GRD training, 96% of social care professionals have mentioned having acquired knowledge that can be used in their daily practice.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:15px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n  <section class=\"paragraph-banner-block alignfull has-background has-grd-background-color\"\n  >\n    <div class=\"paragraph-banner-block__inner container\">\n      <p class=\"paragraph-text\">\u201cI knew in the beginning that it was harmful, for sure.
